Vanlife with Woodpecker

Welcome to Vanlifewithwoodpecker.com, a site I created to showcase my lifestyle and blog about topics that interest me. I’ve been living in vans since December of 2015. I initially decided to start living this way as a means to an end. I didn’t like paying half of my paycheck in rent every month and I didn’t make much money, to begin with. I didn’t know how to make more money so I decided to figure out how to need less money.

There were things I wanted to do with my life that seemed so basic but that I couldn’t afford. Things like travel–I wanted to be able to go to conferences, events, or a friend’s wedding. I wanted some free time so I could keep up with my health. I looked around and saw so many people that were unhealthy and I didn’t want that to be me. I worked nights and weekends so my sleep schedule was all wrong. Humans are meant to live in nature and sleep when the sun goes down and wake up when the sun comes up. Living in a van offered me a way to work less, travel when I wanted, and save money for the things that mattered to me.

The things that matter to me are health, fitness, ancestral living, liberty, self-sufficiency, psychedelics, creativity and a bunch of other shit. I don’t want to live like most people in this day and age. Civilization is fucked! And since I can’t go back in time and live in a hunter-gatherer nomadic way of life, I’ve got to cut out my own unique path to living as close to nature as I can.
